Ptolemy maps a settlement called Eblana. The Alexandrian geographer’s map of Ireland marks a place called Eblana on the east coast, roughly where Dublin is. Whether it is Dublin, or a settlement nearby, has been argued about for centuries. It is the first written trace of anything here.
